Saddest Day

"Today, the road all runners come,

Shoulder-high we bring you home,

And set you at your threshold down,

Townsman of a stiller town."

Post Number One - What??

Do you remember the J-Blogosphere from the mid-aughts? Around 2004 I created the "Mirty Got Married" blog to ramble on about my marriage, re-engaging with Judaism, and other various life events and mundane things.

This was in the early days of blogging. The early days of the World Wide Web, really. There was a group of Jewish bloggers who read each others' work and commented frequently. (Read about it here) We used have a round-up of blogs called Havel Havelim. And once, as I recall, we each wrote a blog in another blogger's style. (I really liked the imitation Mirty blog.)

Well, I'm still Mirty (a combination of my first and middle names, but those of you who know me, know me). The old blog is gone -- long since archived. Blogger has changed. I'm not even sure this is Blogger as I used to know it. Where's my HTML window? (Never mind, I found it.)

But anyway, what, you may ask, makes me focus on my age and on being "older"? Mainly these three mental and emotional preoccupations:

  • My parents and my mother-in-law have passed away, all in the past few years.
  • I am planning my retirement from my career in high tech.
  • My step-kids are all grown up. One is even looking to buy a house!

Mostly I'm hoping that writing about these thoughts and perhaps finding other folks writing in a similar vein will help me process what's going on with my life at this stage. If you come across this, please say hi and leave a comment.

I tried to make this large print just in case you, like me, have gotten older.
